Council-owned Cardiff Bus has received permission to operate 20 vehicles under the banner of a low-cost subsidiary company.

Vale Busline Ltd will initially take over marginal Cardiff Bus routes, in an attempt to make them financially sustainable. However, industry watchers believe the longer-term aim is to allow a stronger response to competition than Cardiff Bus can mount, with its historic employment conditions and pensions requirements.
