The Government is to dedicate all vehicle excise duty revenues in England to a new Roads Fund from 2020/21, for investing in the strategic road network.
Announcing the plan in this week’s Budget, the Chancellor, George Osborne, also emphasised the need for a much-expanded road programme. “Four-fifths of all journeys in this country are by road, yet we rank behind Puerto Rico and Namibia in the quality of our network,” he said.
