Devon County Council has reported a huge rise in the cost of building a new railway station on the Exeter-Newton Abbot line at Marsh Barton.
The cost had been estimated at £4.3m but, following the receipt of tenders for the construction work, it has risen to £7.4m.
Dave Black, Devon’s head of planning, transportation and environment, identified a number of contributory factors to the increase:
