Beijing residents will need a parking space before they can buy a car

Residents of the Chinese capital Beijing will need to prove they have a place to park before being allowed to purchase a new car. The new rules, which come into effect next year, are seen as a way of addressing the shortage of space to park the city’s growing car population.

The city has over 5.5 millions cars but just 2.9 million parking spaces. This disparity is blamed for high levels of congestion.
