The first application of driverless cars could be as replacements for taxis in towns and cities, a former Labour transport minister has predicted.

“Autonomous driverless vehicles are most likely to be first deployed as taxis in controlled areas of towns or city centres,” said Stephen Ladyman, who is now a strategic advisor to Clearview Traffic Group.
