The Government has left the door ajar for Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s proposal to take over the management of all rail stations in the conurbation, including the crown jewel of Manchester Piccadilly.
Piccadilly is one of Network Rail’s 18 managed stations, which house over 510,000 square feet of retail space. GMCA wants to capture the station’s rental income to fund improvements to other stations in the conurbation (LTT 23 Jan).
