TfL’s cycle superhighways rewrite the rules on roadspace allocation

The board of Transport for London this week authorised a huge construction programme of cycle superhighways – the flagship measure in Boris Johnson’s vision for cycling.

When Boris Johnson steps down as London’s mayor next May, some of central London’s streets may look very different to how they do today. TfL’s board this week authorised a huge investment in cycle superhighways, the cornerstone of the mayor’s Vision for cycling published in 2013. Unless a judicial review is launched against the plans, the coming months will see contractors getting on with building four routes:
