Transport for London is poised to order a further 200 New Routemaster buses even though an economic appraisal shows that purchasing conventional hybrids would represent better value for money.
TfL says the appraisal shows that the benefit:cost ratio of buying a New Routemaster compared with a cheaper standard hybrid bus is 0.2:1. This means that for every additional pound spent to purchase a New Routemaster, the monetisable benefits are just 20p.
