Transport for London’s plan to build a new Thames road crossing at Gallions Reach in east London has been boosted by the London Borough of Bexley’s announcement that it does not oppose the scheme.

Bexley was a fierce opponent of the Thames Gateway bridge project at Gallions Reach promoted by Ken Livingstone when he was London’s mayor. Boris Johnson, under pressure from Bexley’s Tory administration, subsequently scrapped the crossing in 2008.
