San Francisco bans app that auctions public parking bays

San Francisco City Council has banned the use of smartphone apps that enable people to buy and sell public parking spaces.

A Rome-based company, MonkeyParking, has developed an app that allows users to auction off public parking spaces that they are in and wait for the buyer to arrive before pulling out. 

However, the app fell foul of the city council, which warned that anyone caught auctioning off parking land would be fined.
