Councils accused of making £312m from CCTV parking enforcement

Local authorities will generate £312m in revenue from the use of static cameras and CCTV cars to enforce parking and traffic regulations, claims the privacy campaign group Big Brother Watch. The group says its research, published in the report Traffic Spies, shows that the use of CCTV cars, which it dubs “spy cars”, has increased by 87% over the past five years, from 36 in 2009 to at least 59 today.
