The Highways Agency is to trial air quality barriers on a section of the M62 to see if they can reduce localised air pollution from vehicles on the motorway.
A Halcrow Group/Hyder joint venture has won a £415,000 contract for the trial near junction 18 in Greater Manchester.
“Research carried out in Holland and North America has indicated that physical barriers may provide a way of reducing pollutant levels behind the barrier,” an HA spokeswoman told LTT.
