I am grateful to David Bayliss for his table comparing key bus indicators in different parts of Britain for the period 1985 to 1999 (Letters LTT 28 Jun). This was the initial period after deregulation outside London when there was rapid change, many poorly managed and under-capitalised undertakings, and widespread competition for its own sake.
