Construction firm Kier has higher bid for May Gurney than rival Costain

Kier is bidding £221m for support services firm May Gurney, in a move that could see it beat Costain to acquire the company.

Kier's bid is more than a third higher than Costain's offer made last month of £177m. Costain said it was now considering its options. Both Kier and Costain say that May Gurney's maintenance capabilities would complement their construction services, allowing them to provide integrated services.
