Liverpool’s elected mayor Joe Anderson is calling for the Government’s proposed high-speed rail network to be extended to serve the city. Plans published by the DfT in January envisage Liverpool trains joining/leaving the high-speed network at Crewe, with a Liverpool-London journey time of 1hr 36 minutes (LTT 08 Feb). But Anderson says this could be cut to 1hr 22 minutes if a line was built to the city.
