Road deaths fall down to economic downturn says TRL

Since the financial crisis the number of people killed on Britain's roads has fallen by more than a third, according to a new report from TRL.

Louise Lloyd, senior statistitican at TRL, will highlight the trends behind the fall from 2,946 deaths in 2007 to 1,901 in 2011 at a conference later this month. They will include the fall in traffic volumes down to motorists cutting discretionary journeys, how drivers are slowing speeds to save fuel costs, and how fewer young men are taking driving...
