SE debate shapes Birmingham demand

Passenger numbers through Birmingham Airport are heavily dependent on whether new airport capacity is built in the South East, according to the DfT’s new forecasts.

The central forecast for Birmingham in the ‘constrained’ scenario (i.e. no new runways across Britain) is 16.7 million passengers in 2030, rising to 28.2 million in 2040 and 38.3 million in 2050.

But in the ‘unconstrained’ scenario the central forecasts are 13.9 million in 2030, 17.2 million in 2040,...
