The Climate Change Act is being ignored by transport decision-makers

The importance of stripping out transport carbon has not been recognised in local government. An inertia against innovative thinking leads to decades-old road building proposals being carried forward.

This country has a unique Climate Change Act (CCA) that should influence genuine low carbon policy but you wouldn’t think that it was on the Statute books, given the proliferation of funding for new roads rather than sustainable transport. A paramount policy failure, this is making a mockery of the Act even before the end of its first 2008-2012 carbon budget period. 

Failure in this area should not be lost on the Climate Change Committee (CCC), which advises Government on the Act....
