Laser scanners to speed up motorway crash analysis

A trial of 3D laser scanners that collect data on road accidents is to be carried out by 27 English police forces. The Department for Transport (DfT) is to provide £2.7m of funding for the 37 scanners.

The equipment, which is being supplied by Nottingham-based firm 3D Laser Mapping, will, the company says, enable the police to collect highly detailed, 3D images of crash sites up to 50% faster than traditional survey techniques. Data from the scanners is used to produce high quality...
