Chancellor George Osborne could announce the acceleration of a number of trunk road projects later this month, as part of efforts to boost the flagging economy.
There is speculation that Osborne will use his autumn statement on 29 November to respond to the growing calls from business for road schemes to be brought forward. The Confederation of British Industry last week wrote to Osborne, setting out how he could give the road construction sector a boost.
