The DfT has awarded London mayor Boris Johnson £5m to improve air quality in the capital and ensure compliance with binding European targets on particulates. Johnson plans to use the money for a ‘Clean Air Fund’ to deliver measures at locations where PM10 levels are particularly high. Measures could include trials of the dust suppressant technology, travel plans for local firms, a no-idling zone, cycling and walking schemes, and vegetation that absorbs particles.
