Transport for London has pledged to get tough on fare evasion on its Tube, bus and light rail networks. The problem cost TfL £75m in lost revenue in 2010 – a £5m increase on the previous year. Fares evasion is estimated at £20m on the Tube and £40m on the bus network. A recent survey, commissioned by TfL, showed that one quarter of passengers thought it was easy to fare dodge in London and one in ten passengers believed fare evading was worth the risk.
