I am surprised that Stephen Joseph is surprised that the DfT is missing “central direction” from Number 10 (Interview LTT 11 Feb).
Surely government policy is to leave transport, health, education, housing etc to the market? Bus transport has been increasingly left to the market since deregulation in 1985 resulting in some companies becoming multinational monopolies leaving the small operator and the wannabe passenger abandoned.
