Arriva operates the Welsh and Cross Country rail franchises in the UK, and a fleet of 6,000 buses.

What kind of year has he had?

2010 saw Sunderland-based Arriva sold to Deutsche Bahn, Germany’s state-owned railway company, in a £1.6bn deal. Martin has stayed on as the group’s chief executive, but he now answers to Berlin, not the City.
