West Mids conurbation withdraws funding for fixed speed cameras

All fixed speed cameras in the West Midlands conurbation could be turned off on 1 April after the councils this week refused to provide the police with funding for their continued use.

The seven Metropolitan districts currently provide West Midlands Police with £1.93m a year to fund camera enforcement. But councillors on the West Midlands Planning and Transport Sub-Committee last week approved funding of just £750,000 next year to cover local and joint road safety projects....
