Clients ‘too reliant on consultancy expertise’

14 January 2011

Public sector clients for new transport and other infrastructure schemes are too reliant on consultants, which pushes up the cost of projects, according to Infrastructure UK.

“This lack of technically competent in-house teams oblige UK public authorities to spend more on legal, technical and financial external advisors,” it says. The lack of in-house expertise also means that UK clients “are consequently less able to discuss, challenge or interrogate designs”.
