Time up for free parking on capital’s red routes

TfL set to scrap 20-minute free parking in bid to help offset spending cuts

Free short-term parking on the capital’s red routes looks set to be scrapped by Transport for London (TfL). Currently, the bays are free for up to 20 minutes.

But TfL is now considering charging for the bays to raise revenue and balance its books after funding reductions of 28% to the organisation’s budget was outlined in the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR). This will see a reduction in funding, which will fall from £1.93bn in 2010/11 to £1.51bn four years...
