Though occasioned by the Tube strike, these are not comments on the strike as such, the strength of the case or the merits of the strategy adopted by either side. One of the things I learned from my parents was how little value are strictures by richer people about what poorer people ought to do, and my dad in particular had a lot of friends among bus drivers and conductors (so much so that walking through the West End with him, as a child in the 1950s, was almost always punctuated by shouted...
