Cross-Thames cable car

The UK’s first urban cable car system could be operating in time for the London Olympics. Transport for London has published plans for a cable car link over the river Thames between the Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks. It would link two of the major Games venues, the O2 and the Excel.

The cable car could provide a crossing every 30 seconds carrying up to 2,500 passengers per hour in each direction, equivalent to the capacity of 50 buses per hour, and is expected to cost...
