Johnson hints at road closures but admits that pollution targets may still not be met

Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s draft Air Quality Strategy, which has been put out to public consultation, contains some potentially ‘draconian’ measures but also concedes that at least one legally-binding pollution limit is unlikely to be met in the capital without significant action at the national level.

The Mayor's draft Air Quality Strategy for London, which the general public has until June 21 to comment on, focuses on six policy areas that consist largely of ‘smarter choice’ policies to encourage people to travel less by private car and a raft of technological initiatives designed to make the vehicles that do take to the capital’s roads ‘greener’.
