Sunderland City Council has announced the closure of a city centre car park on public safety grounds. The 390-space Central multi-storey, built in 1966, has been the subject of regular surveys by engineers.
The most recent survey revealed concerns over its structural condition. It was closed as a precautionary measure, and at this stage it is not known when it might reopen.
