Wireless electric car charging pilot mooted

Researchers are developing a new form of on-street electric vehicle charging point to eliminate the need for cables.

The inductive charging system would use an electromagnetic field to transfer energy between a charging station ‘plate’ embedded in the road and the vehicle battery. Electric toothbrushes are charged in this way.
