Huge hike in fines planned to cut streetworks disruption

Utility companies could see fines for over-running streetworks increase ten-fold under plans outlined by transport minister Sadiq Khan.

Khan has put forward the proposal in a letter to council leaders of England’s largest cities, in which he seeks their views about how the disruption caused by roadworks can be minimised. News of the plans came as Khan also granted approval for a permit scheme to manage roadworks in London.
