The promoters of a new road bridge across the Mersey estuary are re-examining the procurement model in the light of the financial crisis.

The Mersey Gateway crossing will be built 1.5km to the east of the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge, between Runcorn and Widnes, and will provide a new fast link between Merseyside and the M56. The project, promoted by Halton Council, comprises a new 1km six-lane cable stayed bridge, a further 1km of approach roads and 7km of improvements to roads either side...
