The Government is being urged to end taxpayer funding of environmental transport pressure groups.
Right-leaning pressure group the Taxpayers’ Alliance says the groups have clear political and ideological goals and should not therefore benefit from taxpayer funding.
It reports that in 2007/08 the Campaign for Better Transport received £417,210 of taxpayer funding; Friends of the Earth £153,994; and Living Streets £150,000.
