Transport for London has ended weeks of industry speculation with the news that it is to sell East Thames Buses, its arms-length bus operation, to Go Ahead subsidiary London General.

The deal will make Go Ahead the capital's largest bus operator, with a market share now just ahead of Arriva at 21%.

The group will acquire the business for a total cash consideration of £5m, with the transaction due to be completed by September 5.
