Deutsche Bahn chief Hartmut Mehdorn resigns over staff spying scandal

The head of Germany’s state owned rail operator resigned yesterday following a series of scandals over the company’s attempts to spy on its staff.

Hartmut Mehdorn, chief executive of Deutsche Bahn, Germany’s biggest public company, said he was stepping down to stop the “destructive debates” that were damaging the company and the whole country.
