Train operators should look at alternatives to station barriers

(Transit December 5), prompted by the Stagecoach approach to fraudulent travel at its East Midlands Trains operation, challenges the use of ticket barriers as the default solution. The same point was made by the Commons Transport Committee in their report into ticketing on public transport, Gwyneth Dunwoody’s last, published in April this year. In their response the Department for Transport offered some sort of review of gating, but this has yet to materialise....
