Ken Livingstone has asked Transport for London to investigate launching a huge bike hire scheme in the capital in an effort to persuade more people to cycle short everyday journeys.
The mayor's instruction comes after he saw the Velib - 'Freedom bike' - bicycle hire scheme in operation in Paris last month.
