The Barnstaple Western bypass opened on 23 May. The road links the A361 with the A39 west of Barnstaple. A 2.7km dual carriageway road runs south from Braunton Road and crosses the River Taw on a 409-metre long five-span bridge to a new signal-controlled junction with the A3125, adjacent to Barnstaple railway station. From there the road runs parallel to the railway line to a new roundabout on the A39.
