Work has started on pedestrianising the area outside the Metquarter shopping centre and making Whitechapel a pedestrian zone between Sir Thomas Street and Church Street. Hydraulic bollards will prevent vehicles entering the area between 10am and 6pm. It is one of the schemes in the £73m Liverpool City Centre Movement Strategy project to improve roads and public areas.
