The 'dream' of direct rail services between the university towns of Oxford and Cambridge may still be some way away but trains could be running on the western 'half' of the network within four years, says the East-West Rail Consortium (EWRC). This is the most optimistic timescale, however, as the consortium admits that it has yet to agree on the actual details of which services will run between which stations with the DfT and Network Rail, let alone begin to implement them.
