Network Rail unveils new approach to planning rail demand

Network Rail has announced a new approach to planning future demand for rail services, which will replace the current system of route utilisation strategies.

Under the new long-term planning process approach, four types of study will be undertaken:

market studies – these will forecast demand over a ten and 30 year period for freight and three passenger markets: long distance, regional urban, and London and the South East.
