West Midlands names its price for taking forward road pricing

Transport secretary Douglas Alexander used his speech at last week's Labour Party conference to heap praise on London's mayor, Ken Livingstone, and Labour councillors in Manchester and the West Midlands for their contribution to the development of road pricing. Alexander said: "We need bold steps if people are going to be able to travel easily, if the economy is going to keep growing and if we are to rise to the environmental challenge.
