Lewisham Council is working with Zest to expand public EV charging across the south London borough.

The project will see the installation of at least 200 kerbside charging points, specifically designed for households who rely on on-street parking.

Under the agreement, Zest will invest an initial £1.5m to deliver, operate and maintain the charging network over the next 15 years.

In addition, the council has secured £100,000 through the government’s On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).

The first charger, on Childers Street, went live in December and there are now 14 charging spaces live across the borough.

Robin Heap, chief executive of Zest, said: “Lewisham is demonstrating real ambition in its plans for a low-carbon transport system. By prioritising reliable on-street charging, the Council is making it easier for households without private parking to participate in the transition to electric vehicles. Our role is to support that long-term vision with infrastructure that residents can rely on today and for years to come.”
