Scottish transport minister Tavish Scott this week responded to pressure from Shetland Islands Council and granted it regional transport partnership status in its own right, thereby removing it from the Highlands and Islands RTP.
Scott confirmed that there would be seven statutory RTPs in total, two more than were originally proposed by the Executive and three more than the current number of voluntary RTPs. The seven partnerships and their constituent local authorities will be:
