9Yards has appointed Believ to install EV chargepoints across 12 of its retail parks nationally.

The project is backed by a £10m investment from Believ.

All 96 chargepoints installed will be fully accessible.

Six of the retail parks will also feature co-branded solar canopies, providing shelter for a comfortable charging experience and showcasing 9Yards’ ambition to integrate renewable energy into the customer journey.

Installation of the chargepoints is scheduled to begin in late 2026. Believ will provide an end-to-end service, from site assessment and grid connection to installation, operation and long-term maintenance, with all works fully funded by the CPO.

The 9Yards sites span a diverse range of high-traffic retail destinations across the UK, including Croydon, York, Dunfermline, Newbury, Northampton, Preston, Shrewsbury, Stevenage, Taplow and Worthing.

Each site hosts a mix of retail and hospitality brands such as Boots, Costa Coffee, DFS, IKEA, Lidl, M&S, McDonalds, Nandos and Next, making them good situations for charging on site.

Guy Bartlett, chief executive at Believ, believes the retail sector has a key role to play in the UK’s transition to electric mobility. He said: “As the EV market continues to expand, customer expectations around charging are rapidly evolving. By embedding accessible, ultra-rapid charging into its retail destinations, 9Yards is helping to shape the future of customer experience while supporting wider environmental goals.

“Our fully funded model means they can achieve this at scale without the financial or operational burden, and with confidence in a long-term, expertly managed solution.”

Ian Rusbridge, co-head of asset management at 9Yards adds: “We are excited to partner with Believ on the roll-out of an ultra-rapid EV charging facility across our portfolio.

“Believ’s robust financial backing and experience gave us the confidence they can deliver. Their property team has been collaborative throughout the process.  This new EV operation provides further amenities at each park for the benefit of the visitors to the retail parks.”

Believ’s Charging Ahead retail and hospitality report looks at businesses are using EV charging to attract customers, increase loyalty, boost revenue and support communities.
