Newcastle’s Clean Air Zone has reduced NO2 levels by 9%, says council

 

Falling nitrogen dioxide levels in Newcastle are linked to the introduction of a Clean Air Zone, according to a new report from the city council.

New data for 2024 shows that average levels of NO2 across the city went down by 9% compared with 2023.

However, the data shows that pollution levels in two areas of the city – Percy Street in the city centre and Stephenson Road in Heaton – continue to exceed legal limits despite improvements at both locations since 2023.
