The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) has launched its second biennial workforce survey, a major initiative aimed at tracking employment trends, understanding workforce composition, and forecasting future challenges across the UK highways and transportation sector.

Building on the success of the inaugural 2023 survey, which established a vital baseline of employment data, the 2025 survey will be open throughout July.

CIHT invites all individuals working within highways and transportation in the UK, to take part and contribute to what is building to be the most comprehensive employment and skills map for the industry.  Simply by taking part, respondents have the opportunity to take part in a prize draw for £250 Amazon vouchers.

The aim of this initiative is to produce a dynamic report which will provide an evidence-based view of the sector’s size, structure, and evolving needs. By collecting and comparing data every two years, CIHT aims to create a robust longitudinal dataset that will inform government policy, influence strategic planning, and support businesses in making decisions grounded in real-world intelligence.

The sector faces increasing expectations to deliver sustainable mobility solutions, meet net zero targets, and create economic and social value. This report will help to meet these challenges head-on, by improving our understanding of the make-up and skills of the collective workforce.
