£3m funding for Leicester’s zero-emission buses

Government supports decarbonisation of bus sector with grants and a new centre of excellence

The UK government has confirmed £3m funding for 18 new zero-emission buses (ZEBs) in Leicester. The new buses will be manufactured in Northern Ireland by Wrightbus and operated by First Bus.

This investment means all diesel buses at the operator First Bus’s depot in Leicester will now be replaced with 86 electric buses funded by the Zero Emission Buses Regional Areas (ZEBRA), making Leicester home to one of the first bus depots in the UK to transition to fully electric. In...
